So I was watching the 2 disc Blu-Ray Wrestlemania 27 yesterday and noticed…?
That the music for the triple H and undertaker entrances into the ring had been edited. I watched the ppv live and triple h had the “For whom the bell tolls” from metallica playing in his gladiator entrance promo, but on the blu-ray it’s still the same but the lyrics are cut out…..and in undertakers entrance, when the pay per view was live he came out to that “last outlaw” song, sorry don’t know the name, but it’s the Johnny cash sounding song, but on the blu-ray he came out and the song was cut out and they edited in his usual funeral procession music that he always comes out to…..so did anyone else catch this and do you know why they did this??? I figured it wad some music licensing issue were they were only allowed to use it live, or had to pay to use it or something, if you got any idea why let me know cause I was just curious as to why they had to edit it out
You’ve basically answered this question yourself. How you previously stated that it was perhaps a licensing issue, and I’d say your assumption is precise.. If I remember correctly, one of the members from Metallica acknowledge the fact that HHH was going to use their song for WrestleMania. Keep in mind that it was a few days before the big Spring PPV!
I’ve came to the conclusion that Vince McMahon and WWE payed royalties or agreed on a one time only deal with Metallica for use of the HHH special theme song during the ppv, but didn’t agree on the distribution of their metallica song for WWE’s DVD profits.
At the end of the day if the WWE made profit in Blu-Ray sales with the Metallica song included, then McMahon would have to give a percentage to Metallica, and my assumption is that Vince declined, instead going without Metallica’s song in the Mania DVD.
The same could be said about Johnny Cash’s Undertaker theme. And to quote Vince McMahon, ” Nothing Personal, Just Business”
Undertaker new WWE theme song with lyrics- “Ain’t No Grave” by Johnny Cash
